Session #22 of The Dwarven Wedding.

Summary

The man our heroes met last session introduces himself as Faeryl Colifar. He and his daughters, Siryn and Malel, escaped the city once known as Torunn. The old road has been closed up until very recently--well, less guarded. Many Drow have gone back underground for… something. Faeryl was just a lowly priest slave. He would hear rumblings from the lower priestesses about a new dark moon. He isn’t sure. He just wanted to escape, which he did with Siryn and Malel--soon to be offerings to Lolth as they, like their head priestess, possess the “fire within.”

The two girls are naturally gifted magic users with abilities rivalling master sorcerers of Torunn, even at the young ages of ten and twelve. As their gifts presented, they were tested and chosen to be worthy, but the head priestess does not care for potential rivals.

The high priestess? Kharza-khad. She rules with a black heart in worship of Lolth. Rumor has it she was possessed by the goddess herself during the siege on Torunn. She has a harem of a two or three dozen slave men she keeps at the ready for anything she pleases. It is not a choice. They are picked and discarded at will.

But the fall of Torunn was so long ago? How is he fine? He has some sort of salve all over his skin. This guy was born 100ish years after the fall. They warriors and monsters from the underdark warred with the surviving Dwarves, killing many if not all.

This guy recognizes Remnant. He’s seen a few of these living memories. Many are used as playthings by the high priestesses. The city is closed off from the rest of the world. The drow simply needed somewhere to stay--or so he thinks.

Faeryl warns our heroes that beasts of all kinds have been released from the underdark and beyond. The road to Torunn is not safe, and Torunn will likely be their death. He managed to escape with two very powerful magicians. Nonetheless, he gives our travelers a map1, then leaves for Zircon after being directed by our heroes.

Following the map, and after some discussion of Darkvision and goat smashing, our heroes take the left path for themselves (north) and arrive at a room lit by a green light. It appears to be 50ft across, filled with water. There is a bridge across the water, but it is a few inches under water. They attempt to cross and awaken a trio of ropers! The bridge is incredibly slippery, causing some to fall in the water to be attacked by vicious fish.

With some struggle and clever tactics, our heroes defeat the ropers and make their way out of the room towards whatever strange thing awaits them on this journey to Torunn.
