The forests of Lafavel are home to the a very strange breed of Elf. The Lafavel forest used to be much further south, but when the Rending moved the continent, the forest was pushed further north and cast into a colder and harsher climate. However, unlike the rest of the Elven population, the Elves of Lafavel had always been welcoming to outsiders. They had even provided a few of the mages that ended up causing the Rending.

After the Rending, they took a long time getting back on their feet. The forests of Lafavel are largely wild and untamed and the Elves who lived there took quite a hit. They’ve managed to rebuild three major cities and there are a number of smaller settlements throughout the forest in attempts to begin reclaiming lost land. One city is at the southernmost edge of the forest. It spills out into the surrounding plains a bit. The second is deep in the heart of the woods. They found an old city from before the Rending and are working on fixing it up to its former glory, and the last one shares a border with the Gnomish city at the mouth of the river.

The Elves have been slowly planting and replacing the old trees with pine trees that can withstand the cold and the old trees die out from the change in climate. The process is slow and involves a lot of care from the Elves, but they are beginning to make real progress.

These Elves are very unlike the rest of their kind. They rolled with the punches and have adapted the best they can to their new environment. For lack of better descriptors, they’re viking/norse Elves.
