Appearance

An Orc with intricate white tattoos spread across his grey-green skin. His long black hair is braided into a chord that reaches his lower back. Tough and resilient from his years in the wilds, Veiko's body is thick and muscular. And though he was never classically educated, his eyes are dark and piercing, constantly assessing what he sees. He is a simple man, preferring to wear cottons and furs instead of leathers or steel plate that might offer more protection, retaining the ability to move freely. Around his neck is a medallion. A symbol of his people and his ancestors that he believes protects him.

Veiko wields a single headed axe with a worn ironwood handle. Both the head and haft bear the markings of his tribe in the Deep Woods. He carries a simple shield as well, which he uses more often as a tool than for protection. He wields it only for particularly bloody work.

Backstory

Born on the fringes of the Deep Woods at the base of the mountains of Thain-win, Veiko is a member of a particularly spiritual orcish tribe. They are connected to the Orcs of old, perhaps by magic or, more likely, simply through an oral history. They believe themselves guided by the spirits of their ancestors. They seek to learn from past mistakes so as not to be banished below the earth like their people 35,000 years previous. As all in his tribe, Veiko was trained to read the signs of the spirits. Receiving visions in his dreams. Seeing visions in the fire and smoke.

Living a simple life, Veiko soon began to crave more. He traveled further from the woods, encountering travelers and traders. Through them he learned about the world beyond his home. He spent years trading animal furs and his services as a bodyguard and guide, and though he never learned to read, he eventually learned the common tongue.

One night, in a dream, Veiko was delivered a vision of a cave in the mountains. A cave he had never seen, far beyond the Deep Woods. A cave that contained a great evil. For days he meditated on the dream, staring into smoke and flame, eventually deciding to travel deep into the mountains. As he traveled, his dreams and the visions in the smoke became more and more detailed. More urgent. On his travels, he encountered twin elves selling fluorescent furs that offered to lead him to the cave. He was slow to trust them, though in the end the urgency of his visions spurred him on and he relented. A week of travel later, and he found himself at the cave from his dream, a yawning black cavern leading into the earth. Traveling below the earth, Veiko comes across a group of dwarves. They tell him of Torunn, the forces gathered there, and a great evil rising. They trade directions, and advise Veiko of the path he must take, imparting with him a secret phrase to grant him passage.

Now Veiko waits outside Torunn. The dreams have not come to him in weeks, though he wakes each day with a feeling of dread. And each day he meditates by the fire in hopes of receiving another sign.
