The Dwarven Wedding Session 12

Session #12 of The Dwarven Wedding.

Summary

The night passes.

As our party continues on the road to Thain-win, Verity sees a sign off in the distance claiming ownership of the forest to the "Borug Clan." Ricky is, of course, scared. Specifically, scared of Orcs.

Tolnor decides he's going to sneak ahead to look for any orcs. He finds a clearing and sneaks back, but is followed. Upon reaching the caravan, two orcs make their way out of the forest. They introduce themselves as Borug and Borug--brothers in the clan. They demand 50gp per mouth in the party. After some arguments over the number of actual mouths and the dumbness of the orcs¹, Verity, using her musical magic, charms the two orcs into being friendly in which they let the group go for only 30gp because they "gotta bring something back to Emmit." Before they leave, the orcs explain that they have 4 orcs in their party (all named Borug) and a leader named Emmit.

After an hour of travel closer to Thain-win, they group hears a horn. It's the Orcs. Verity says, "They're gonna be pissed. I made them like me for a while." Someone calls Remnant a bastard (likely Verity), to which he says, "Am I a bastard?"

The orcs and their leader arrive despite an illusion put on by Verity and a fight is on. Emmit is a two headed monstrous creature. Tolnor fights wildly and Emmit yells to steal his "shiny" armor. Every member of the party gave it their all. Luana spiked the path, causing severe damage to the orcs and Emmit before she transformed into a Lion to attack. Remnant threw his weight into the fight using his sword and spells. Verity sang songs of pain to the orcs. And in the end, the battle was close. Tolnor, the wild mage of Titania found himself in a terrible spot between an orc and the monstrosity known as Emmit. They traded blows and Tolnor was knocked to the ground.

In the final moments of the fight Emmit grabbed Tolnor and began to run. Verity, Luana, and Remnant ran to save him, and slayed the beast, but Tolnor had had too much. His wounds were too great. His fight ended and the light faded from his eyes.

In a moment of sheer desperation, Remnant took it upon himself to try to save Tolnor's soul--something he wasn't sure was possible. In a bright flash of light, Remnant froze up and shut down, becoming a statue, unresponsive. Verity tried to console Luana, but it did not help. Luana grasped Tolnor's only prized possession, his Owlbear cloak, taking it with her as tears streamed down her cheeks. Verity wrapped Tolnor's body, placing it in the back of the caravan where Luana wrapped it in funeral garb, then hoisted Remnant in next to him.

As they left for Thain-win, a magical mist fell upon the forest.

Two days pass.

They make their way up the circular pass, talking to common folk living on the path who are surprised to see visitors to the city. Upon arriving to Thain-win, the group ties their horse and caravan off and makes their way (after some direction from a poorly-spoken Elf) to the Thain-win Welcoming center.

They speak with a woman named Annaliese who is overly cheery, but a bit simple in her understanding of common. After some explaining of who they're looking for (a librarian who they don't know the name of seeing that Remnant is currently locked up), she provides them with 12 scrolls full of information and locations of librarians who have studied some of the topics they mentioned:

Remnant hears the name "Redfurl" and wakes up.
